What is "Life is School"?
As you've probably noticed we don't do a lot of structured activities everyday, and especially lately with a pregnant Momma, it's all we can do just to read some books some days. My boys are learning everyday though. You know, you are a homeschool Mom if you are teaching them ANYthing at home, especially if you have a slow pace that they can follow you throughout the day, don't work just on your own agenda all day, and take most every learning opportunity that comes up during the day.
Here is our day yesterday and an example of how everyday our life is school.
We started the day with breakfast. The boys know to clean up after themselves (learning self-discipline). They have chores that they do such as feeding the dog and cleaning up toys, and then follow along and assist me in chores such as, emptying dishwasher, cleaning bathrooms, folding laundry, etc.
They got involved in playing (some kind of thing with cars - great imagination and motor skills, as well as learning to work together. Then they did some coloring.
Mommy took this time to do Bible reading and getting on the treadmill.
They have learned if they let Mommy workout good, then they get a turn on the treadmill. (Great excercise and learning to share.)
We then read a stack full of books that they picked out. This led to many great discussions that followed after each book was read.
We cleaned their room (organization, working together, good stewards.)
They helped me make lunch.
We had a fighting incident that led to discussions about sin and being responsible for our own choices no matter what another person does to you.
Somewhere along in there came questions about how a fan works, and we discussed the basic workings of a motor and electricity.
We watched some birds out our window. It's funny hearing the boys try to remember the names of the different kinds of birds that come along.
Kaden's really into addition right now too. He likes to figure out what 100 plus 100 makes, and so on.
Shoe sizes came up and we talked about how funny it was that it went up to 12 and then started over at 1. Kaden said, "Just like clocks!" Wow! I hadn't even thought of that!
They got good wrestling time with Daddy while Mommy cooked dinner. And then more books before bed.
For an unstructured, unplanned day I think they learned quite a bit! And that's how we do life around here. Always learning!
