Getting Horsy Around Here

Thought I better share my resources since a lot of the stuff I do comes from some initial idea from a printed resource. These have all been used during our obedience study:
Konos
A Child’s Book of Character Building
A Children’s Bible
A couple of random children’s devotionals I’ve picked up at thrift stores

We started off the day reading about Gideon in the Bible and how he obeyed God. Next we watched a video on National Geographic for Kids about wild horses. Then we watched some Youtube videos about horses being trained. We compared the horse trainers to parents and the horses to children, and how the “handler” has to train the horses/children to obey. Well then we got a little horsy around here . . .

We read books both fiction and non-fiction about horses and cowboys.
I laid cards around the room (this can be done with anything on the cards age appropriate for your children). We did colors for Will and sight words for Kaden. (This game is adapted from Deleise’s adaption of Hulabaloo. They were instructed to pretend like they were horses and to gallop/run/buck/etc. to each word/color called out. (Please pay no attention to the fact that Will is wearing the same shirt as yesterday - we do change clothes occasionally around here - but only occasionally.)

The boys drew pictures of horses and cowboys
(Kaden’s)

(Will’s) I was very impressed with Will’s skills here.
This is the best picture I’ve seen him draw!

I had let the boys pick out a children’s cookbook from the library and they chose a Sesame Street cookbook. They got to chose a recipe from that to try today. They chose jelly omelets. (Ew . . . they liked them though!) (Oh, and yes, it really bothered me that omelets didn’t fit into the theme of horses, but I’m learning to let that go. Ha ha!) (Oh, they did have apples for snacks - I know what a great snack for horses! Helped my conscious about everything matching that way.)

We’ve been working like crazy on making valentine’s as well. Come back tomorrow to see those!

Horses live on farms with chickens! lol There is a connection!!! It's ok. :-)

The omelet thing cracked me up! It's soooo something that would bother me too. Too funny!

Too bad we live so darn far apart!!!!

Wow will's pic is really good. I like the idea of a kid's cookbook. Lily got one for her bd and we haven't tried any of them yet.

You are so good! When I bring out the camera I usually have to instruct my boys to actually PUT ON a shirt, so Will is a step ahead of us.
